7 New Thriller & Mystery Books Coming in December 2026

A girl vanishes in an Alaskan storm. A body turns up at a holiday resort. A medical examiner starts asking questions a hospital would rather avoid.

A missing child does not leave much room for patience, especially when the weather is closing in. Wolf Point puts a newly promoted sergeant in that position, while The Chaperones strands a school camping trip on an island with two children unaccounted for. The similar starting fears lead into quite different groups of suspects.

Elsewhere, December brings a medical investigation for Jack Stapleton, another case for Nicola Bridge, a national-parks conspiracy and a very personal kidnapping for Jack Morgan. The dates here are scheduled US releases; the returning detectives are identified below.

Wolf Point by Lisa Howells book cover

01 · Alaskan police investigation

Wolf Point

· US · Grand Central Publishing

Terril Black’s first night in charge should have been a chance to find her feet. Instead, a teenage girl disappears from a remote motel in Wolf Point, Alaska. Her promotion has already put her at odds with people in the department, and the officers beside her include a hostile colleague and a rookie newly arrived from Miami.

Then a snowstorm cuts the town off. The search depends on a small, divided police force, and the clues suggest the girl’s disappearance reaches into problems the community has kept to itself. The cold is an immediate danger to the missing girl, not just scenery around the investigation.

This introduces Sergeant Terril Black and her first case in Wolf Point. There is no earlier investigation to catch up on.

Eyes on You by Adele Parks book cover

02 · Psychological suspense

Eyes on You

· US · MIRA

When Amy was fifteen, she witnessed her father kill his secret lover. Her testimony helped send him to prison, leaving her and her mother to live with the aftermath. Years later, Amy is working in a restaurant when Oliver Harrington walks in. He has a past he does not want to talk about either.

Their connection offers Amy a chance at a life that is not defined by her father’s crime. But the relationship also brings secrecy, obsession and the possibility that she is trusting the wrong person. Amy wants to believe she has found someone who understands her, which makes questioning him harder.

A separate story from Parks’s earlier novels, with no previous book required.

Bleed by Robin Cook book cover

03 · Medical conspiracy thriller

Bleed

· US · G.P. Putnam's Sons

Dr. Jack Stapleton agrees to help a former colleague facing a malpractice suit after a patient dies of sepsis following cataract surgery. The autopsy raises doubts about what happened. The hospital has been bought by a private-equity firm whose founder, Gerald Barlow, was involved in the company that ruined Jack’s old practice.

One death becomes a pattern of fatal infections, and then hospital workers begin turning up dead. Jack’s forensic work leads into the business decisions behind the treatment. The threat here grows out of a place patients have to trust, with staff who may know more than they can safely say.

Jack Stapleton and Laurie Montgomery, book 16. Jack and Laurie are long-running characters. Blindsight introduces Jack, and Spasm is the preceding novel; the hospital case in Bleed is new.

The Parkwood Murders by Chris Chibnall book cover

04 · Holiday-resort murder mystery

The Parkwood Murders

· US · Pamela Dorman Books

A body floating in a swimming pool turns Parkwood Holiday Village into Detective Nicola Bridge’s next crime scene. The woodland resort is full of families, guests and staff, but finding someone willing to say what they saw is another matter. Nicola also has difficulties at home competing for her attention.

There is plenty to investigate: a husband’s shaky alibi, an instructor with fresh scars, a manager hiding a past. The resort gives Nicola a large, temporary community to question. She has to work out which secrets concern the killing before the guests disperse and the opportunity goes with them.

Nicola Bridge, book 2. Nicola’s earlier case is Death at the White Hart. Parkwood brings a new murder and a new group of suspects, while her own life continues.

The Chaperones by Amy Meyerson book cover

05 · Island suspense

The Chaperones

· US · Thomas & Mercer

The parents at the exclusive Chester School take their third-graders camping on Santa Cruz Island, off Southern California. They are used to having arrangements made for them. Here, help is a ninety-minute boat ride away, and a storm soon makes that distance matter. By morning, two boys are missing from their tents.

The search uncovers a body and puts the adults’ own histories under pressure. Someone else is also on the island who has no business being there. The enclosed group includes parents and teachers with complicated reasons to distrust each other, even while they are supposed to be looking after the children.

This is a standalone thriller, not a continuation of The Water Lies.

Pressure Point by A. J. Landau book cover

06 · National-parks conspiracy thriller

Pressure Point

· US · Minotaur Books

National Park Service agent Michael Walker follows an arms dealer into Hawaii’s Volcanoes National Park. When the fugitive dies with his explosives, that line of inquiry appears to close. Instead, Walker is drawn toward a newly discovered, century-old murder and a disastrous eruption at Crater Lake.

Walker’s possible identification of the old victim as naturalist John Muir makes the case stranger still. His search connects the fictional murder to a present-day conspiracy involving volcanic activity in several parks. He has to link events separated by geography and time while people are in immediate danger.

A National Parks Thriller, book 3. Leave No Trace and Cold Burn are the first two Michael Walker novels. This third investigation returns to his work across the national parks.

Private Monaco by James Patterson and Adam Hamdy book cover

07 · International crime thriller

Private Monaco

· US · Little, Brown and Company

Jack Morgan goes to Monaco as the Private investigation agency prepares to open an office there. The visit becomes personal when the woman he loves is kidnapped. He is given a gun and told that saving her means killing someone else.

The casinos and luxury of Monte Carlo surround a fairly brutal problem: Jack has to find out who is directing him and who the intended victim really is. Following the demand could make him a murderer; refusing it could cost the hostage her life.

Part of the Private series, which begins with Private. Jack Morgan’s agency and relationships are established, but the kidnapping is the central case here.

Different kinds of trouble

Wolf Point and The Chaperones begin with missing children in places that become difficult to leave. Bleed follows medical evidence into a hospital’s finances, while Pressure Point connects an old death to a much larger threat. Eyes on You keeps the uncertainty inside a relationship. The two other returning investigators have a resort murder and a hostage to deal with.
